How to continue your momentum despite failure.
Building momentum is not always a linear line upwards.
If you joined me in my May Challenge you no doubt felt that.
I would love to know how you went.
What were your findings?
Are you ready to keep going?
You probably had some wins and you probably had some setbacks.
It's easy to wallow in "I didn't get it done" mode.
"I'm a failure" energy.
Or "what's the point" type of thinking.
Yes, it's easy, but it's not useful and it's not the kind of mindset I want to breed here.
Instead, if you found you didn't achieve as much as you would have liked this month, (that's good, I didn't either) let me teach you a helpful evaluation process that you can draw on.
Why evaluating is useful?
When you set a goal, you inevitably will have failures.
These failures loom larger than any wins and you become unevenly weighted in negativity.
An evaluation process is useful because it helps lift us out of being overly critical and puts us into a more energetic, problem solving mindset, that will ultimately move us closer to our goal rather than away from it.
So let's start.
Think back on your month, what was one thing you specifically wanted to achieve?
Thinking of that goal,
First ask yourself what worked? - What went right? What part did you achieve? What did you like about the goal? What were you thinking when it was all going well? What did you learn about yourself? What was fun about it? What did you enjoy? What results did you get?
Next ask what didn't work and why? - What part didn't go to plan? Where did you fall short? What were the excuses? What were the interruptions? What were the distractions? What got in the way? What were you thinking that stopped you?
Finally ask what can you do differently in the future to make your success inevitable? - What could you change? How could you stop the distractions/interruptions/excuses from happening? What could you have in place? Who would you have to bring on board? What support do you need? What conversations do you have to have?
I would love to hear what you come up with in any part of this process.
Building momentum can be wobbly at the beginning but as you continue to evaluate like this, you don't leave yourself spinning in negative thought patterns that will only slow you down or stop you completely
Evaluating will help you see how far you have come, allows you tostep into your powerto make deliberate changes, and draws you closer to your goal.
Have this process in your back pocket and pull it out when you feel yourself slipping into negativity about your "failures."
If you do find yourself spinning and would like some specific help on how to move forward toward your goal, reply to this email.
